Kiwi sport

This week for Touch rugby we did planting the ball.

To plant the ball I need to put my hand out then I put the ball on the ground and step over the ball and the dummy has to pick up the ball.

Then we played a game, Bibs versus non bibs. If I don't have a ball I have to go tag a bib person who has a ball then they have to plant the ball. The score for the bibs was 2 and the score for the non bibs was 1.

The next game we did was attacking and defending we did 1 on 1. I went with the girls so it would be even. The defender had to touch the person that was trying to score a goal.

I like this skill because if the junior don't know this skill I can teach them.

Division story problems

How to solve division by following these steps:

1. You have to write how many objects you have.

2. You have to write who your sharing it with.

3. Next you write how many you and that person have.

4. Lastly you have to write the algorithm. For example: 20 ÷ 2 = 10.

For example: I have 20 sandwiches. I divided them between myself and Chisa. We each got 10 sandwiches. 20 ÷ 2 = 10

Novel study

The Twits were an ugly couple who would play pranks on each other.
Mr twit pranks Mrs twit by putting a frog in her bed. When Mrs twit went in bed and turned her light off she started scratching because was itchy. Mrs twit got very scared she fainted. Mr Twit went to get cold water to pour on her. When Mr Twit poured the water the frog jumped on Mrs Twit's face.

Mrs Twit wanted her revenge so she went to prank Mr Twit. She got a tin and went to the garden to get worms. Mrs Twit made the worms look like spaghetti. She put tomato sauce, cheese on top. Mr twit said why is my spaghetti moving because its a new spaghetti squiggly spaghetti.

I like this book because the twits keep playing prank on each other.

Touch rugby

Today we learned some basic skills for touch rugby.

First we learnt how to tap the ball, catching, and pass the ball.

Afterwards we played passing drills to get better at committing to the ball and catching.

I really like this rugby game because these basic skills are good for kids to learn.

Inquiry | Testing experiments

Insulators are used to stop heat from moving place to place. Five materials were tested for the ability to insulate: glass, plastic, metal, paper, and polystyrene.

The best thing for keeping things warm was polystyrene because the average cooling rate was 8.

The worst things for keeping things cold were: plastic, paper, tin.

The best insulators for keeping things warm and cool was tin because the cooling sheet for tin was 13 and the warm sheet was 10.

Inquiry experiment

This week for inquiry we needed to make this experiment precise.

For this experiment we needed a certain type of material my group needed nappy brand 2.

Next we had two pour 100ml of water onto the nappy.

Then we lifted the nappy to see if any water wasn't absorbed.  All the water was absorbed. This experiment was successful.

This experiment was fun i'd like to do it again with paper towels.

Te reo Māori

This week for te reo Maori we learnt diffrent body parts in te reo Maori.

The first activity Year 5 did was body parts. For example mouth would be waha. This activity was difficult because there were lots of words most of us don't know.

Next we had to highlight words that matched. We could only highlight the Maori words that matched with the English words.

I need to learn more Maori words I only knew some Maori words.

Dividing numbers

Divison is sharing an amount of things among people. For example 12 ÷ 2 = 6 the original amount is 12 the number of groups is 2 the group size is 6.

This slide shows some more examples for divison.
